The Color Wheel

The color wheel is designed to help see how colors relate to eachother.

The primary color wheel has three colors: red, blue, and yellow.  These can not be made by mixing other colors together.  However, all other colors can be made from these three.

The three secondary colors are green, violet, and orange.  These colors are made from mixing side-by-side colors on the primary color wheel.

There are six intermediate colors that are named after the one primary and one secondary color mixed to create them.  Yellow-green, blue-green, red-violet, blue-violet, red-orange, and yellow-orange.  The primary color always goes first when naming them.

Black, gray, and tan are neutral colors.  A neutral can be mixed by combining all three primary colors.
